Breaking Empathy Barriers via VR
The current socio-political climate and media have created a societal climate which is more polarised and divisive than ever. Meanwhile, the growth of VR makes it easier and more immersive than ever to connect and empathise with people of various backgrounds around the world.
Creative Futures believes that VR can end the distance between disparate views and create empathy. We will host a workshop to debut, discuss and film reactions to a series of immersive VR experiences from people sharing their deeply personal views on divisive issues including immigration crises; inequality in education, healthcare, jobs, & housing; as well as environmental issues, pollution and food waste. Our video team will produce multi-sensory interviews before the workshop and record SXSW reactions.

- VR bridges perspective gaps, enabling people to share and communicate experiences. This can enhance empathy by stepping into others' shoes.
- VR’s ability to drive deeper empathy, understanding and learnings. “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn."
- Open-minded attendees will confront and gain deeper understanding of opposing viewpoints on key issues of the day, including immigration & inequality
