SXSW 2019
A New Reality: Hope for a World in Crisis
Description:
This panel uses visual diagrams and graphic images from the writings of Jonas Salk to explain the current social, political, and economic turmoil and to outline the task of evolving into and designing a positive future. Drawing from natural principles, Jonas’ son, a psychiatrist, and two experts in architecture, urban planning, and sustainability from the esteemed firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, describe humanity being at an epochal transition point – moving from values of limitless growth, competition, and independence to a world based on embracing limits, equilibrium, cooperation, and interdependence. Successfully navigating this transition will not only assure our survival but also result in a convergence of our highest ideals, enhancing human well-being in every part of the planet.
