SXSW 2019
Bringing the Monster to Heel: Responsible AI
Description:
Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly being used to steer potentially life-changing decisions such as who should be detained when charged with a crime, whether a resume will be passed on for job consideration or who will receive a mortgage. As the stakes go higher, so does concern that the historical data used to train AI systems and the algorithms that operate on this data reflect the biases of society and the people who create the algorithms, resulting in unfair and non-transparent outcomes. This panel will explain how AI bias occurs and provide answers on how we can shift the balance toward fairness, transparency, and accountability.
