Break the "Code": 5 Steps for Effective Mentoring

Description:

Young people develop a personal code to stay safe and protect themselves. I built my code at 12 years old to protect myself from adults and systems that harmed me as a young man of color, vowing that I would never again let myself be let down by an adult. Many of the young people I work with today have also built codes. Through my decades-long work with youth, I’ve learned that there are five steps that I can walk myself through to help break through and unlock young people's success.
