SXSW 2019

Hunting and Gathering Data is So Paleolithic!

Description:

For most of our existence as humans, we have obtained food by hunting animals and gathering plants. Advancing technical capabilities led to farming. With food more accessible, people were able to focus on higher level needs.

Can the same be said for harvesting data? Think about the disorienting rabbit holes we enter when attempting to make sense of massive datasets using a variety of data sources, dashboards, and spreadsheets; not to mention the skills necessary to query and extract information from these datasets.

Tools and machines now allow us to capitalize on unstructured data in ways unimaginable even a year ago. We no longer have to travel, search, and pull together large datasets, which allows more time to interpret, extract intelligent insights, and act upon the data.
