How to 'Grow Your Own' Teacher Workforce

We share research and case studies that outline how innovative school districts disrupt traditional hiring practices to recruit and retain highly qualified, diverse teachers eager to embrace critical and culturally relevant pedagogies. Ensuring every child in America has access to a great teacher is a national priority, especially as whole states face dramatic teacher shortages, and generally schools struggle to staff teachers in STEM fields, where high wage jobs are growing. What’s the secret? Do not settle for unsatisfactory candidates! Create profiles for ideal teachers, gather data to market individuals who fit the profile, and ‘Grow Your Own’ teachers to ensure a long-term pipeline.
