The past few years have seen a dramatic increase in the influence of individual voices and tastemakers across the digital media landscape. YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat, and Twitter enable individuals to reach millions. However, these are not celebrities who have built on pre-existing platforms such as film, music, or reality television and then opened a Twitter account. These are everyday people who have leveraged social media platforms to build huge followings and use their influence to form lucrative partnerships with some of the world’s biggest brands.
