Mobile Web Apps Suck! (But They Don't Have To)

Bill Fisher will discuss developing HTML5 apps for mobile devices -- web apps on steroids that provide awesome touch interactions, utilize hardware-accelerated graphics, and even work offline without any internet connection at all. He will present the business opportunities that HTML5 apps offer, and then discuss specific engineering techniques for creating them. Technologies discussed will include: cross-device touch event handling, CSS3 3D transforms, testing for hardware-accelerated graphics, a variety of technologies for storing the application for offline use, and the latest JavaScript frameworks....

Additional Supporting Materials

  1. Why would I want to build a web app instead of an iOS app or an Android app?
  2. Isn't the user experience of native apps just simply better?
  3. Ok, cool idea. But really how do you pull this off? And if I want it to work on desktop too, what about all those big images in my design that I want to use? Isn't that going to be a problem for mobile?
  4. The app cache is a bear to work with. Can't stand it. What are my other options for getting this web app to work offline?
  5. I'm going to do this. Where can I learn more?
