Breaking the Silence: anti-LGBTQ Bias in Sport

This session will educate stakeholders on the benefits and risks of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) inclusion in sports by leveraging brand relationships and research to support the need for more inclusive athletic communities. Panelists will discuss the state of inclusion and deliver executable strategies to tackle anti-LGBTQ bias and sexism in professional and college sports:
1. History of coming out as LGBT in professional sports (athletes who landed and lost sponsorships)
2. Sports Business Cents: valuing the pink dollar
• Research and insights (Wasserman research: buying power)
• Brands and Sponsorship: Making Cents (from Brittney Griner to Jason Collins to Michael Sam)
3. Exploring the Criticisms of Coming Out
• Stereotyping and the impact of homophobia and sexism on women’s sports
4. Inclusive Policies in the Workplace
• Brand awareness and consumer loyalty
• Social responsibility
