SXSW 2024
SDR in an HDR World
Description:
In a world where 90% of media content is still in an SDR format, the industry is now in a race to restore and elevate this content into the current HDR Streaming world. With AI, different plug ins and Dolby Vision leading the way, we are now in a place to restore the classics, bring it into an HDR Color Space and re-release these films in a a whole new way! This chat would be about the different tools we can use to do this, an A and B of the differences of each medium and before and after clips. We have several examples, including work from the Prince vault.

Takeaways
- The amount of media that is still in SDR, including stock footage that almost all current streaming HDR content still uses, and how we make it match.
- How each SDR format, depending on the content and recording spec, should get different treatment to make it look the absolute best.
- How we need to Upres all SDR Formats in order to have it play in a streaming platform in a good looking manner.
