SXSW 2024
Tech’s Role in Addressing the Global Hearing Epidemic
Description:
Hearing loss is a global epidemic that’s getting worse. Those raised on Walkman, Discman and iPod are reaching hearing loss age. Few understand the signs or dangers of untreated hearing loss. Until recently in the US, hearing aids were difficult and expensive to obtain. But last October they finally became available for sale over the counter, creating access to care for millions who need hearing help. This presentation will tell the story of the innovators who identified this need, created a solution and bypassed a broken, obsolete system to change the way we understand and treat hearing loss.
