SXSW EDU 2024

Interrupting Dehumanizing Practices in Education

Description:

Teachers are often told not to smile before the holidays. Education leaders are rewarded in skipping their lunch or staying late. What others may describe as a commitment to students, we name as dehumanizing practices. Join us for an interactive workshop on exploring how the education system has been built and sustained as a place of dehumanization for all stakeholders, especially the adults. Through inquiry and leveraging our personal experiences, we will explore what are dehumanizing practices, how we can individually and collectively interrupt them and begin to recenter humanity.
