Takeaways

  1. The role of psychotherapy in psychedelic treatment remains untested/unoptimized. Research is needed to establish if/how it contributes to benefits.
  2. Knowledge of the key mechanisms of action, from neuronal plasticity to brain networks to noetic insights, will contribute to optimizing treatments.
  3. Combining psychedelics with other efficacious treatments, e.g., evidence-based psychotherapy and neuromodulation, may enhance clinical benefits.
