SXSW 2023
Ending Fossil Fuels & Planting Trees Is Not Enough
Description:
To fight climate change we must dramatically reduce our society-wide reliance on fossil fuels. There’s no other way. Curtailing fossil fuels alone is not enough. This fact is not widely publicly understood, but we can change that. As industry leaders, we know that truly mitigating the worst effects of the climate crisis will take new innovation and scientific advancement such as the removal of excess carbon from the atmosphere and oceans. Carbon removal and other climate solutions can take many forms, with many opportunities to support local economic empowerment and social/environmental justice. How can we better educate the public and broaden the dialogue about emerging climate solutions to inspire hope, positive action, and tangible solutions and help bridge this gap?
