SXSW 2023

Reinventing African Traditional Stories Through XR

Description:

For the past few years, a new generation of creators has emerged in Africa. Using immersive technologies, they make their cultural heritage more accessible by exploring and reinventing, celebrating and sharing African traditional stories. From past to future, they mix oral myths with immersive storytelling opportunities in order to build their own identity(ies).

This panel builds upon the success of the Africa2020 Season in France, and the presentation of African XR/VR developers at the recent NewImages Festival in Paris. You will hear how emerging technologies can help to preserve, pass down and also reappropriate African folk tales by bringing back to life this intangible culture in a modern way and by inviting people to experience it in a very immersive and inclusive manner.
