SXSW 2022
Redesigning an Inclusive Virtually-Driven World
Description:
Digital placemaking has become one of the most innovative & economically relevant areas of tech and design—from XR to tech-enabled DOOH. Cultural institutions, hospitality and travel brands, retailers, and citizens have begun to extend their reach into, and leave their mark upon, the digital dimension of public places.
As we reemerge into physical spaces, it is crucial to think spatially about how people connect to one another, how we access and provide data, and how we can create physical and digital 'common ground' through design and storytelling.
But, as our experience of spaces becomes increasingly curated and digital, there are also ethical quandaries: the risks of monopoly; the dangers of extending the 'filter bubble' out into real space; the end of consensus reality.
