SXSW 2022

Raising Change: Transgender in America

Description:

Raising Change is a conversation that offers safe space to those wanting and needing to learn more about how to engage with the transgender community. In the first part of the conversation will discuss all those "labels" that you've heard about and have never understood, the importance of pronouns, and inappropriate questions. In part two we will begin personalizing the experience of being transgender to help familiarize a cisgender audience to problems the community faces in society, business, and the justice system. During the time remaining, guests will be offered a safe space to ask questions without judgement.

Takeaways

  1. What do I need to know? Here you'll learn more about the terms used in the community and about a variety of pronouns that transgender people may use.
  2. What is inappropriate for me to ask? One thing I often hear is that people are afraid to learn more out of fear of saying or doing something wrong.
  3. What are the real issues facing the transgender community? Being trans is more than about pronouns and bathrooms. Here's why we keep fighting.
