SXSW 2022

Building a Blueprint for US Technology Policy

Description:

Has technology lived up to its promise to improve the lives of all Americans? Recently its hazards have become glaringly obvious, from spreading misinformation to exacerbating the gap between rich and poor, to access to healthcare and education.

The Future of Tech Commission has drafted a blueprint for the future of our nation’s technology policy. This nonpartisan group conducted dozens of interviews, held town halls across the country, and fielded a nationwide poll to understand the issues and develop a set of actionable, realistic recommendations. Join Jim Steyer, CEO of Common Sense, and co-commissioners Secretary Margaret Spellings and Governor Deval Patrick as they share how the Commission will help the Biden Administration build a brighter, more hopeful future for all Americans.

  1. The challenges presented by technology vary widely by age, race, ethnicity, region, occupation, income level, and more.
  2. How Americans access, afford, and feel safe and empowered to leverage technology will determine their ability to participate fully in our society.
  3. An inclusive technology is within our reach, but we have to address some deficiencies with respect to current policies and market dynamics.
