SXSW 2022

Bringing Marginalized Creatives Back to the Web

Description:

Historically marginalized people and their creativity are drivers of culture, but often have their labor exploited to help move a brand, product, or concept on the web into becoming mainstream. Too regularly these creatives are having their voices muted, being eliminated from projects and are finding that they have limited options for controlling and monetizing their art. The web’s creative platforms and predatory ad models grant privilege and access unequally, leaving most creatives out of the very industries they helped build.

Hear how open technology, funding, and mentoring are creating access to new, more equitable opportunities for creators of all types, from publishers and musicians to app and game developers to technologists, and beyond.
