SXSW 2021
Hacking Twitch
Description:
When Covid-19 thrust DEF CON into SAFE MODE for the first time in its 28 year history, the Defense Digital Service (DDS), in partnership with the U.S. Air Force, leveraged Twitch to teach you how to hack a satellite -- in your pajamas. DDS converted custom built, hard-wired satellite models to be hackable through Otterbot, a DDS designed custom chatbot. Otterbot’s unique capability was managing the custom game instance and progress for each user individually. Thus, as Covid-19 forced people into isolation, Otterbot connected over 10k people in interactive learning through game play, showcasing the best of humanity in trying times. Join DDS Bureaucracy Hacker Clair Koroma and Cybersecurity PhD candidate Nick Ashworth to nerd out on hacking Twitch to teach and connect in a pandemic world.
