SXSW 2021
Changing Government Culture to Amplify Users
Description:
The COVID-19 crisis threatened to destabilize US military services and national security. Designing solutions such as a self-harm intervention app and a tool to track the coronavirus spreading on Navy vessels required sensitive, rapid user experience testing and validation. That’s where the Defense Digital Service (DDS), a “swat team of nerds,” was key. Committed to “Go where the work is” and “Design with users not for them,” DDS faced into the pandemic.
Katie Olson, DDS Deputy Director will showcase how DDS helped military branches and service members assess mission-critical situations and how design critically informs situational awareness for counter-small unmanned aerial systems (C-sUAS) missions, self-harm intervention, & defense tech.
