SXSW 2020
Hacking the misogyny obstacle course in Cannabis
Description:
Men are almost ubiquitously the gatekeepers to funding, equipment purchasing, repairs, materials sourcing and licensing in Cannabis. Navigating the obstacle course of a cannabis start-up requires some pretty creative moves in order to get these things accomplished as a woman, especially when the competition gets stiff in an emerging market. When code-switching and calm communication isn't enough, sometimes it takes hiring a "stunt man" or pretending to be a male colleague. We want to address ways men can assist women to create a more equitable environment, and also how women can pivot to achieve their goals, sometimes using unusual strategies.
