SXSW 2020

Citizen Science in Japan & The Netherlands

Description:

The sessions is a combination of two examples of citizen science projects that are now on the brink of expanding to global networks. We want to present our lessons and attract people to contribute to the next steps.

Safecast is a global volunteer-centred citizen science project working to empower people with data about their environments. Safecast maintains the largest open dataset of background radiation measurements ever collected. Over 50 million readings to date and growing daily. Safecast is currently building out a network of sensors to monitor PM1.0, PM2.5, Carbon Monoxide, Nitrogen Dioxide, Ozone and Methane. AstroPlant is an ESA backed programme to gather data on plant growth to select crops for space.
