SXSW 2020
Who Will Disrupt the Humanitarian Industry?
Description:
We are now witnessing the highest levels of movement on record. In every hemisphere, 258 million people are on the move – that's 1 in every 30 humans on earth. 65 million people are forcibly displaced, with a third of refugees living in detention camps, with most others left to struggle in urban slums with no real access to services or rights. The average stay in a refugee camp is 17 years. They are now risking their lives to avoid our solution.
This is an industry that’s ripe for disruption, that is largely trapped in policies and programs shaped decades ago. The social sector is one of the last remaining undisrupted sectors. The times require something new, and after watching the means of disruption across other sectors, we can map what it might look like for us.

- The humanitarian institutions we know today were shaped more than 50 years ago. The system is broken. We'll explore ideas on who or what might fix it.
- We believe in an amazing world filled with abundance - including the abundance found in the 65 million refugees & displaced people around the world.
