Inside Out: How Culture Drives Innovation

Description:

America’s healthcare is widely viewed as an overpriced, antiquated “sick care” system. The public is demanding change and many, including presidential candidates, believe that a government-run, single-payer system is the cure. It’s a passionate and heated discussion.

However, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Tennessee and Blue Shield of California have set out to address the issues and offer solutions, with a newly accelerated innovation push, building consensus to drive change.

How? Both heritage, nonprofit brands recognize the need for a new high-tech approach to more personalized patient care. And to do so, employees need education and training to adapt and adopt new ways of thinking in order to continue to strive to provide the best level of care to those they serve.

Takeaways

  1. "We spend too much time celebrating the start-ups and not enough time celebrating the keep-goings" - Josh Reid Jones. Continuous work on future care.
  2. Employees must be taught to be okay with the unknown and imperfection, as well as applying learnings to future planning to get the best results.
  3. Programming and examples are key. Need examples and to hear messages in many different ways and at many different times.
