SXSW 2020

From Depression to Anxiety, to SXSW

Description:

A meet up for those who have suffered or are suffering with the effects of depression and anxiety, but who don't want to miss out on such an impactful conference. SXSW can be an overwhelming experience. As someone with clinical depression and diagnosed agoraphobia, I found it difficult to navigate SXSW my first time attending. As I familiarized myself more and more with SXSW it became less and less anxiety-provoking. My physical symptoms weren't paralyzing to the point of not attending sessions or experiences. I was no longer finding myself making "exit" plans or frantically finding places to get moments of relief to recharge. As I talked with others with the same common experiences, I understood our experiences at SXSW would have been different the first time around had we met sooner.

Other Resources / Information

Takeaways

  1. Attendees will have the comfort that they are not alone in such a big conference suffering alone with anxiety or an on set moment of depression.
  2. Being able to pass corridors or streets and find familiar faces among the crowd which in return eases the experience and makes it more enjoyable.
  3. A safe and open space for all to attend to be able to share openly with one another.
