SXSW 2020
Understanding the Technology Cold War
Description:
Great power competition between the U.S., Russia and China means that American tech companies, with overseas supply chains and global consumers, are more and more stuck in the middle of a new Cold War. Beyond the profit motive, the global tech industry now faces a responsibility to fully understand the specific national security implications of its business decisions. American companies need to move beyond asking if business can be done, and carefully consider whether something should be done if it could adversely affect global security.
We’ll discuss how great power competition is influencing the public and private tech sectors, the responsibilities that we all share regarding new tech development and deployment, as well as the opportunities emerging in this new world order.
