This year, the College Board's announcement of an “environmental context dashboard” stirred praise, and some pushback, with the proposal to equip admissions counselors with data on a student’s environment, alongside their SAT scores. At a time of record adolescent mental health and rising student homelessness, and income insecurity, how can colleges not only understand the roots of student adversity, but understand its impact on student persistence?
