SXSW 2020
Babies Don’t Have Bootstraps
Description:
Brain science shows that there is no time in life more important than ages 0-3. These early years lay the critical foundation for our long-term social-emotional and behavioral development and our physical and mental health. Yet, we fail to recognize child welfare as a public health issue while encouraging people to lift themselves up by their bootstraps. But, what does this mean for babies?
How do our early experiences shape our health, and consequently our education and overall life outcomes? How can we enact responsive policies and implement best practices with the science of early childhood development at the core to change the trajectories of people’s lives and improve the public’s health?
