SXSW 2020

Placemaking with Augmented Reality

Description:

Many communities are struggling with rapid growth and the social, cultural and economic challenges often associated with that: displacement, wealth inequity, homelessness and crime. Placemaking is a powerful, evidence-based framework that has been shown to improve public engagement and mitigate negative outcomes, even in the most challenging of locales. Augmented reality can greatly enhance and even transform Placemaking. But what makes AR’s role in Placemaking different from more traditional methods? And how is it best incorporated?

This presentation will discuss an AR Placemaking project produced for Seattle's 2019 Design Festival and share best practices and lessons learned.
