SXSW 2020
How much of a city’s past influences its future?
Description:
Does the past influence the commercial and cultural agenda of a city, its people and relationships with one another and the outside world?
Manchester (UK) has led a chequered past. As the city regenerates into a hub of innovation, does the influence of past lives remain ingrained within its culture, and to what extent will it shape its future? Exploring the rich history and fascinating people of this industrial city, I’ll explore how the past has influenced its evolution. The bee is the symbol of Manchester; how has a hive mentality helped drive regeneration, and healed the scars of tragic events?
I’ll explore whether physical community culture can transcend mediums into the digital sphere, and whether digital communities impact a city’s society, for the better or for worse.
