From Virtual Hate to Violent Activity
Description:
This panel, “From Virtual Hate to Violent Activity,” will focus on extremists exploitation of online platforms in an effort to reach, recruit, and radicalize adherents and how this can and has led to real world violence. Oren Segal, ADL’s Director of the Center on Extremism, serves as panel moderator of two extremism experts to discuss how extremists use diverse online platforms, including encrypted services, gaming apps and emerging technologies. The panel consists of Chris Magyarics, an expert on white supremacy and other forms of right-wing extremism and Seamus Hughes, Deputy Director of the Program on Extremism at George Washington University, an expert on terrorism, homegrown violent extremism, and countering violent extremism.
