SXSW 2020

The Plastic Crisis is Also the Climate Crisis

Description:

Approximately 6,300 million metric tons of plastic waste has been generated since the creation of plastics. This is a massive scourge for our ocean; roughly 150 million metric tons of plastic waste now pollutes our ocean with an additional 8 million metric tons (and growing) spilling into the ocean every year.
Plastic production is also a big contributor to the climate crisis. New research warns that unless something changes, greenhouse gas emissions from plastic production could reach 15% of our global carbon emissions by 2050. That future is unacceptable.
This presentation will discuss effective ways to reduce our plastic production and how we can change our waste management practices in order to save our ocean and climate.
