Teacher Burnout: An in-flight safety demonstration
"In the event of a decompression on this flight, an oxygen mask will automatically appear in front of you. If you are travelling with a child or someone who requires assistance, secure your mask on first, and then on the other person." Following these in-flight safety instructions, educators need to take the uncharacteristic step of caring for themselves first and then for their students. This session is an honest discussion of reasons for burnout as well as ways to avoid and recover from it.
- Acknowledging reasons for educator burnout, even the ones no one wants to talk about.
- Unorthodox methods to prevent educator burnout to reduce daily stress including Just Jump Through the Hoop and Turn It Off.
- No nonsense methods to recover from burnout including It's All About You and a "Oh No You Didn't" pillow.
