The HollaDeck: An Interactive Hip Hop Classroom

From internet memes to Hamilton on Broadway, we’re witnessing a convergence in the worlds of hip hop culture and academics. Fresh Ed presents the HollaDeck: an interactive experience where participants engage academic content via original hip hop music, videos and cutting-edge technology. After two successful runs at SXSWEdu, we’re excited to bring the HollaDeck to SXSW Interactive, with live performances, role-playing, and widely accessible tech such as mobile phones, AR and VR apps. Plus, learn how to create your own culturally responsive activations with the HollaDeck Kit - and be part of the paradigm shift fusing the worlds of youth culture, rap and education with technology.

Questions

  2. How can augmented reality and virtual reality applications be used in un/conventional ways to create instances of historical understanding & empathy?
  3. In a world where social inequity is increasingly apparent, how do we apply cultural responsiveness to the use of technology?
