Role of Social / Cooperation in Wireless Networks
Wireless networking is at the heart of everything to do with Internet going forward. Smartphones, tablets, computers, e-books, machines, appliances - all rely on the abundant availability of wireless connectivity. Yet today, the demand already well outpaces the availability of wireless supply. And Cisco (VNI Index) and Facebook predict that Internet use is going to grow at a clip of almost 2x per year for the next 10 years (or 30x more in 2018 and 1000x more in 2023), making the issue that much worse. Are we ready to pay 30x more or stop using wireless, or is there a better way?
Beyond wireless technology and architecture innovations creating more wireless capacity, there are a range of start-ups using social approaches and cooperative technology to get much much more out of the wireless and WiFi networks that we use every day.
If they are right, they may unlock enough capacity to address a major portion of that explosion... And permanently change the meaning of "wireless".
