Creating an Equitable STEM Classroom

An equitable learning environments means legitimate and equal social and intellectual access to class content. Unfortunately, not all learning spaces are inclusive or equitable. This inequity in education has led to a shocking trend in STEM industries: a well-documented dearth of women and people of color in the technological workplace. In this hands-on, interactive workshop, participants will engage in learning activities and discussions to build their own capacity for creating equity in the classroom.

Learning Objectives

  1. Explain why equity matters in STEM and Computer Science education
  2. Self-assess your level of comfort with creating equity
  3. Identify easy to implement strategies for overcoming biases and making a more equitable classroom
