Description:

We consider about implicit bias and there are numerous sessions, books, and conferences on its effects and how to combat it. But what about implicit ableism? From “I stand with you,” to “I hear you,” ableist language can distract from even the most well-intentioned efforts. But, as with any marginalized perspective, it takes all of us to course-correct. This session will identify where and when implicit ableism is most common in our daily spaces as the presenter demonstrates how to intentionally work towards ending implicit ableism in our behaviors, language, and actions. Attendees will leave this presentation with concrete, actionable ways and literal language to be able to continue adjusting go their virtual and socially distanced “new normal” while being more inclusive.
