Women: Bearing the Impact of COVID-19 Globally

Description:

Women are the hardest hit by COVID-19. The pandemic’s economic impacts are most felt by women who are generally earning less or more often getting laid off. Unpaid care work has increased with children out of school. Women’s health is also being impacted as resources are being allocated to fighting the pandemic and with many women putting off doctor visits. On top of stresses and work/life balance influx, some women are facing domestic violence because of forced lockdowns with abusers. Very few organizations besides the UN have a bird’s eye view of how this virus has impacted women globally. UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka will share more about the burdens females are experiencing as a result of COVID-19 and the measures that need to be taken to better support them.
