Description:
Our movements in real space and virtual space are tracked by pedometers, GPS units, keystroke loggers, spyware and myware. How can we have fun with all our data trails? I will discuss examples of surveillance data-driven entertainment including our "Passively Multiplayer Online Game": PMOG transforms the existing topography of the Internet into a game world for players to vandalize, annotate, and curate.

Hi - I suggested this solo presentation to SXSW. Here's what I'm thinking: We are constantly leaving data trails, especially as we move online. And as we move through real space with our mobile devices! All that data could be feeding good times. I want to present a number of games that are built on watching our behavior: games like ChoreWars, Seriosity, AskVille, and PMOG. That last one I'm working on - an MMO built into the interface of Firefox. We'll talk about the ability for play to be broken into small chunks and distributed through your web experiences. We'll wonder what kind of fun it would be to constantly play many massively networked games. And we'll explore how these types of experiences are softening us up for our computer overlords. I look forward to a lively Q&A!

Interesting topic, would also like to hear about how user privacy can be maintained--if at all!
