Exploring Lack of Diversity In the Technology Industry

Event Interactive 2011
Format Solo
Organizer Wayne Sutton SocialWayne.com
Description Do you know that at SXSW 2010 I had at least three people ask me how do I deal with being minority at SXSW and not looking like everyone else? The lack of diversity in technology is a problem for an entire generation to come and our current generation. It’s something I’ve had to live with for the past 10 years working in technology industry. During the “exploring lack of diversity in the technology industry” session we’ll discuss dealing with being mistreated and overlooked by your skin color, over coming diversity challenges online and what’s it’s like being the only minority in rooms of 200 plus at tech events. Other topics we’ll discuss are how to avoid being stereotyped and the lack of diversity in the tech startups. This session will be a serious discussion that will cover personal testimonies along with action items to help close the digital divide.
