Pet Personal Projects for Fun and Profit

Event Interactive 2011
Format Panel
Organizer Nik Fletcher nikf.org
Description As designers and developers, we're forever starting side projects to tinker with - but sometimes when inspiration strikes, you pluck up the courage to say 'Hey, this is a pretty awesome idea' and decide to run with it. It's not paid work, and you're working around your existing clients or day-job. But for some reason you want to give it a go, and bring the idea to fruition. In this panel, you'll hear from people who've started web conferences of their own from scratch, built web-apps to help themselves and their friends, started publishing their own print magazine (who said print was dead?!), and sat themselves down, learnt to programme and release their own iPhone app. They've all had different experiences and motivations to bring the projects to full-release, but they're all designers and developers who've spent hours labouring over than one project that they wanted to make.
