Real-Time Streams Need Real-Time Feedback

Event Interactive 2011
Format Dual
Organizer Marshall Kirkpatrick ReadWriteWeb
Description The allure of real-time is to be always connected and always in-the-know. Users don't like missing out on whatever they’re into – friends, news, brands, and products. Staying “in-the-know” requires a lot of subscriptions. More subscriptions means a bigger, deeper, faster-moving stream. The more a user tries to connect, the more difficult it is to get the information they need. Current solutions involve spending more time in the stream (something they likely don't have), or utilizing clunky and frustrating filters (something they don't want to do). We ask: What if the problem didn't exist in the first place? This presentation will explore what the future of Real-Time information filtering, curation and feedback will look like for developers, publishers, and consumers. We will examine where real-time distribution is now, where it's going, and how consumers can give "Real-Time Feedback" to passively and intelligently customize the data streams they receive – no settings required. This joint presentation will be led by a mobile developer and a technology journalist, providing informed perspectives about real-time as seen through two very different lenses.
