Drinking from the Fire Hose – Interactive Education

Event Interactive 2011

Organizer Brad Berkner Elon University
Description It takes a village to raise a child. This classic proverb defines interactive education not merely for children but for all participants. The flood of information intrinsic to this medium is overwhelming to navigate and impossible without guides. Interactive education is an action item and it takes a consorted effort to perform. The vibrant village of practitioners online, at conferences and working daily to improve this medium are valuable educators. Introducing new technology, software or hardware to those unfamiliar can be a daunting endeavor. This interaction, however, will open positive, rewarding experiences for everyone involved. Interactive media is currently comprised of contributors who have come from a variety of educational backgrounds. This creates a platform for communication other fields do not share. Those individuals with a Do It Yourself attitude have instant access to information and the ability to carve out profitable niches. Traditional education models other fields require are often questioned and may be deemed unnecessary in interactive media. The lines can be drawn from production through theory. Forecasting the future and remaining flexible are a forgone conclusion for those whose passions lie in interactive media. Learning to filter, read, digest, organize, and share the information separates the prolific participants from the casual user. It could be argued that sharing this information has become more important than the information itself.
