Description Yahoo! has been a leader in designing and building environmentally sustainable data centers, and has invested millions in creating the most energy efficient data centers possible. Yahoo! Scott Noteboom, head of global data center infrastructure at Yahoo!, will address the evolution of Yahoo! data centers and how the company is getting more for less through facilities with lower costs, higher performance and accelerated construction. Yahoo!, Christina Page, director of climate and energy Strategy, can speak on industry trends in sustainability, and how Yahoo! is increasing efficiency of its data centers through strategic site locations, state of the art designs, and thoughtful use of alternative energy. Scott and Christina will share best practices and key insights on the company’s journey to sustainability, specifically illustrating Yahoo!’s most recent data center innovation in Lockport, New York. The Lockport data center, which received a energy efficiency grant of $9.9 million from the Dept. of Energy, is one of the most environmentally friendly and energy-efficient buildings of its kind. It is Yahoo!’s first implementation of the patent-pending YCC (Yahoo! Compute Coop) design, aka Yahoo! Chicken Coop, which uses fresh air cooling to drastically reduce the use of energy to operate the servers.
