Description:
The human evolutionary advantage is the ability to process and systematize information/data. The web gives more access to information, and a means to exchange and act on it, giving humans greater ability to find innovative solutions to problems. LibriVox is one small example of this powerful new approach, that might just save our bacon.

It's a great volunteer project and Hugh is a fine ambassador for it.

This is an amazing idea - regular people volunteer to save the world - and now that Hugh has said it, and after witnessing the modest miracle that is LibriVox, I have to say, "Duh! Who *else* is going to save it if not regular people on their own time?" This is interactivity at its full reach.

LibriVox is one of the most rewarding projects I've come across on the Internet.

A provocative title! Excellent to see that the seeds and threads of the '60's are still alive, extending the world community in positive and generous ways —a unique (and free!) way to freely to making the world a better place to live.

Browsing through the proposals, there seems to be a lot of stuff that's either very dry, very negative or very self-absorbed (or some combination of the three). The broader picture about the possibilities and realities of human networking and "evolutionary advantage" (come on, you have to smile) is surely something that could give everyone a break from the humdrum and pause to think about their own place and something that's going on in a different context to what a lot of the would-be speakers seem to be concerned about. Plus, LibriVox is just a remarkable site.

Heck yes, they will. LibriVox is an organization that combines all the best aspects of the internet - collaboration, information sharing, and an excellent sense of community. It's a worthy cause to be promoted anywhere, and a great example to other web-based communities.

Free audio books may not save the world, but volunteers using technology to network together and work towards the common good just might. Librivox is one of the bright spots on the web.

LibriVox is an amazing example of ways in which a creative community can make knowledge (in the form of free audiobooks in this case) available to anyone through the Internet. Add the social networking that arose from this medium to the mix and it's a fascinating story. Well worth listening to.
