Description:
Social networking is more than just 'adding friends'. This panel discusses how you can use online networking tools to your advantage, and help strengthen your brand in the process. Discussion will include takes on popular communities, forums, blogs, etc., and discuss how what you say and do can impact you and/or your business.

This sounds pretty good, with the exception of that Paul Boag guy. I hear he makes fun of Americans. ;) On a more serious note, I'm particularly interested in hearing insights from LinkedIn because it's one of the few well-planned and designed social networks out there.

Sounds cool.

I'm looking forward to this already, and not just because of the speakers - this is becoming an important aspect of personal and professional branding, and it would be great to hear the discussion (and Garrett: Boag's ok now that he uses a Mac ;)
on 21/8/07
@Garrett: Agreed. :)
on 21/8/07
This would definitely make my trip. My first SXSW too :)

So my first comment (before Garrett's) was deleted, but I emailed and Hugh said I was okay to repost it (it was a weird error). Basically, I just said that this panel would include Paul Boag (Boagworld/Headscape), Steve Smith (Ordered List/Sidebar), Mark Norman Francis (Cackhanded/Yahoo!), Bryan Veloso (Avalon Star/Revyver/Sidebar Creative), and Steve Ganz (Linked In) would be joining me on this panel. :)

The worst thing that can happen to an enthusiastic and talented newcomer is to get isolated from the developing community by freelancing or becoming an employee to survive. Keeping in touch while maintaining a learning discipline is essential. The Internet can be a blessing or a curse. This panel couldn't be more up-to-the-minute and important.

I would come to SxSW just to see this.

I'll be there

Our organization is getting ready to develop a social networking site. Now I have an official reason to attend. Great idea, Jina.

Jina, looks like a great panel! I am not sure I will be able to attend - but you get my vote for a great topic.
Do it today!
