Title:

Measuring Blogger Credibility: FTC Regulation vs. Crowdsourced Solutions

Your vote:
Yes No
Organizer:
Will Chen, Wise Bread
Description:
The FTC wants to regulate blogs because many are posting reviews without disclosing conflicts of interest. Is government intervention the answer? This panel discusses new ways to measure blogger credibility using crowdsourced, self-policing systems. It’ll examine specific metrics, review the new tools available, and propose new industry standards.
Questions
Answered:
  1. Are your favorite bloggers lying to you?
  2. What are the details of the FTC’s proposed regulations?
  3. Will government regulation violate the First Amendment?
  4. Will government regulation violate right to privacy (especially for anonymous bloggers)?
  5. What metrics do you use to measure a blogger’s credibility?
  6. Can we trust bloggers to police themselves?
  7. How can we use wisdom of the crowds to evaluate blogger credibility?
  8. How do we get the blogosphere to agree on one industry standard?
  9. Can opt-in, self-policing systems really work as well as government regulation?
  10. Will new industry standards help or hurt advertising revenue?

This is going to be a massive issue to hit the blogosphere with the FTC considering far more disclosure and many already avoiding the restrictions of current regs. Big issue, glad to see it included here

I would be really interested in this, I think that the way forward can only come from those who are actually involved. Glad to see that someone is getting ready.
