Title:

In Praise of Elitism

Your vote:

Organizer:

Description:
This session will discuss the role of elitism in the web standards movement. People contribute to the movement in order to become part of an elite. If this becomes impossible, either by the actions of a closed in-crowd elite, or by a misguided anti-elitism stance, the standards movement will become poorer.

Oh man, this guy knows how to work a crowd, and how to be the gadfly for the web community. And yeah, he really knows his Javascript. If last year's PPK talk is any indication, this will be a thought provoking and fun panel.

"People contribute to the movement in order to become part of an elite"? Over-generalising nonsense.

PPK has made great contributions to the web community via his elaborate quirks testing.

But recently he has gone overboard with this elitism/aristocracy/anti-amateurism war that he's fighting in his head.

Reasonable but critical comments on his weblog are all censored by him.
The same weblog where he calls himself an international guru.

Maybe he's right and the web is suffering from aristocrazy.

My opinion: someone who is censoring the way he is at this moment has no place at a conference.

Is there a class of elitism in the web standards movement. How about those not so elite, are they able to join?

Thank You for another very interesting article. It's really good written and I fully agree with You on main issue, btw. I must say that I really enjoyed reading all of Your posts. It’s interesting to read ideas, and observations from someone else’s point of view… it makes you think more. So please try to keep up the great work all the time. Greetings
