Description:
Every startup origin story is about a couple of developers who abscond to a garage and end up building the Next Big Thing. But money and fame don't need to be your end goal. You can significantly improve your life--and impact others' lives--by coding for pleasure in your spare time.

Thanks everybody. The lineup's not solidified yet, but Gina Trapani is a definite yes. For my part, I've developed and released several open source Windows applications of varying popularity (the most successful of which is probably Texter), and I've also launched a web site called MixTape.me--all done in my spare time when I'm not busy at Lifehacker (http://lifehacker.com).

Similarly, Gina has released a gaggle of popular Firefox extensions (most notably Better Gmail) and headed other open source projects, like the Todo.txt command line interface--also all developed in her spare time.

As I said, I haven't solidified other speakers, but I promise, they'll be great.

Very cool idea. I'd love to see a panel from Adam. You may want to consider David Weekley of PBworks as a panelist. Hardly a "part-time developer," but PBworks originated as a little weekend project.
